Tired of coming up with ideas for pork butt, pork shoulder or country pork ribs? This sweet and savory dish is sure to please the pickiest of eaters. Chicken can also be substituted.
Season the pork with salt and pepper.
In a large fry pan, add sesame and canola oil (to help prevent sesame oil from burning) and sesame seeds to pan. Add pork and brown meat on all sides. Do not clean the fry pan! Remove cooked meat and place in crock pot.
Add the sugar, lemon juice and water to fry pan and stir. Increase the heat to high and cook until the mixture is a dark caramel color, about 5 minutes. The mixture will still be runny, but do not worry.
In a separate small bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, pineapple and juices, sake, pepper, ginger, sweet potato, carrots and chopped onion.
Add the soy sauce mixture to the caramel mixure in the fry pan and return the mixture to a boil. Turn off once boiling and transfer mixture to the crock pot with the browned pork. Pour over pork and cook on high for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
Once meat is cooked and tender, pour liquid from the crock pot back in to the frying pan and bring to a boil. In about 5 minutes, the liquid will start to caramelize before your eyes.
Remove caramelized sauce and pour back over the pork in the crock pot. Stir to mix the sauce with the pork.
Serve warm over brown or white rice. Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top as garnish. Prepare to enjoy a bowl of heaven. Guaranteed to make even the pickiest of kids ask for more.
