Fun sandwiches! I customized the recipe a little but nothing drastic. I added some jalapeño, used both kidney beans and black beans, and added some nutritional yeast to tone down the sweetness of the sauce. Since my sauce came out a bit on the soupy side, I mashed up part of the beans and threw in some quick-cooking barley to thicken the mixture. Will make this one again!

Awesome!!!! Might add a jalapeño next time. But it’s great, definetly going into my meal rotation!

We had these for dinner tonight, with regular hamburger buns and some cheese. Delicious!
I’ve never had a sloppy joe before, so I’m no authority on authenticity here. But hubby, who was all over the idea of sloppy joes for dinner, said these were yummy, too.
I’ll probably add some kidney beans next time, for a little more substance.

Made these tonight and they were delicious! I haven’t eaten a sloppy joe in 10 years (veg) & I’ve been anxious for a recipe like this one– thank you!
I served these on whole wheat buns and even my carnivore dude liked these!

Great recipe! Black beans are a favorite at our house. I was a clinical dietitan manager, renal dietitan for 30 years before we moved to Central Oregon 5 years ago. I miss the nutrition community, nice to find another RD!

I love the concept of this recipe! My husband would definitely be skeptical at first, but I bet I could convert him too!
