Pie vs. Bread

Posted by in Looks Delicious!

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Pie vs. Bread

It’s the day after the Thanksgiving Throwdown and there was some mighty fine food being thrown. The dessert round was a battle between pecan pie and pumpkin bread pudding, so we figured it would be fun to have a little re-enactment of that match here today. It’ll be Team B (for Bread Pudding) against Team P (for Pecan Pie) wrestling for a spot on your holiday table.

Anything involving dessert is worth re-enacting, right?

First up, Team B. Moist, rich, comforting bread pudding. In a variety of flavors so you can use your favorite.

Team P struts in with pecan pie in different incarnations: bars, muffins, cheesecake, or just dressed up with chocolate.

You be the judge! Will it be pie or bread pudding on your table? Cast your vote!

If it’s not chocolate, it’s a waste of calories. Neither – bring on the brownies!

Sarah B. on 11.18.2010

Team P FTW!

Kathryn on 11.18.2010

Marilyn Hausknecht on 11.18.2010

Ha! My husband and I watched and then rewatched the show last night. We’re having both, if I can find Bobby’s recipe. I didn’t stop smiling for the whole 2 hours. So much fun!

jennifer on 11.18.2010

Judy on 11.18.2010

pecan pie without a doubt

Dexie on 11.18.2010

First of, Congrats Ree. You were great.

For holidays, I’d go for the pecan pie. I’d make the pumpkin bread maybe before or after Halloween.

lisa on 11.18.2010

pecan pie all the way
my moms is to die for

Lola on 11.18.2010

I have to choose? Yikes! I would have to go with pie for the dessert. But I could definitely see the breads on the table with main meal.

Shelley C on 11.18.2010

We will have pie, but it will be apple this year. Congratulations on your win! I enjoyed the show last night.

Deborah on 11.18.2010

Pecan Pie! There would be a riot in the family if the pecan pie was missing!

Sandie on 11.18.2010

I’d have to go with the bread puding just becasue the pecan pie looks so sweet and heavy after a big Thanksgiving meal. But I do love anything with pecans in or on it.

SHeila on 11.18.2010

OH BTW CONGRATS WOOOOOOOHOOOOO

SHeila on 11.18.2010

PIE !! ANYTIME I am not crazy about bread pudding… I think it is mouth feel thing ya know? Soggy bread? Strange I know… But I will not eat tomato on a sandwich because of the soggy bread factor. On the side yes on bread no…

Deb da Amazon on 11.18.2010

Most definitely a pie fan. I only want bread pudding once every few years, but a good pie is welcome anytime! :)

Susan Wilborn on 11.18.2010

Gotta be both! I never pass up either!

Brad W. on 11.18.2010

Made Ree’s pecan pie last year at Thanksgiving and then put them into tarts at Christmas. It seemed to finally be the one that makes everybody in my family happy. PIE all the way…

Sue Warmoth on 11.18.2010

Pecan Pie – definitely!! Bread pudding is okay but for Thanksgiving, it’s gotta be Pecan Pie. Just wouldn’t be the same without it! And it was so fun to watch the Throwdown – knew you would win!! Happy Thanksgiving

Michelle Henley on 11.18.2010

You have to have PIE, Pie, and more Pie on Thanksgiving.

SHAVON HOWARD on 11.18.2010

Pecan Pie!!!!! Congrats Ree on your win!!! Way to Throwdown!! Can’t see doing Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes!!

Erika on 11.18.2010

Pecan Pie – I already have Ree’s pie that will make you cry on my menu to make!!!

Carla P on 11.18.2010

I am nearly 60 years old and just made my first pecan pie about 5 years ago…I was thinking it was hard. I hated those sticky sweet pecan pies that I’ve had before at a church social or something and finally decided to try on my own. Came a cross a rich, buttery perfect pecan pie recipe and the rest is history!! PECAN PIE is the best, but it sure has to work hard to beat a good bread pudding like my mom makes. Anyways loved the show last nite and it was great seeing your ‘home on the range’

Pat P. on 11.18.2010

Pie for sure, but I’d love to make the pumpkin bread pudding. By the way, watched the Showdown last night on the Food Channel, you were wonderful – plus enjoyed seeing the Lodge, ranch, kiddos, and hubby.

Penny Wolf on 11.18.2010

Penny picks PIE!

Sylvie on 11.18.2010

Pie..hands down!

Kelly L on 11.18.2010

Definitely the pecan pie.
The show was a lot of fun to watch.

It’s a toss up for me between the Pumpkin Apple Bread Pudding and the Pecan Pie Caramel Cheesecake! Sorry, I am a women…it’s my prerogative to be wishy/washy!!

Ann (napangel) on 11.18.2010

Pie for Thanksgiving, bread pudding just about any other day!

Ree: Can we get the recipe for the sauce you served with your pie on the Throwdown? My husband is demanding it. Pretty please?

Congratulations on your broadening influence on the world, Ree.

Caroline C on 11.18.2010

Pecan Pie! But my FIL makes awesome bread pudding, so if he makes it, I will eat it !

Kris on 11.18.2010

Pie all the way! I loved watching the throwdown….it was so much fun!!! I felt like we got to know you and your “team” in a whole new way. Congratulations!

Veronica H. on 11.18.2010

My husband LOVES bread pudding and I LOVE pecan pie so our house is split. However we both LOVED the Throwdown with Bobby show last night :) Way to go PW!!!!

Cindy on 11.18.2010

I am on the pumpkin bread pudding side. I was going to make a steamed pumpkin cake with home made caramel sauce to please the cake lovers, but I decided to go with the bread pudding. Yum.

Kita on 11.18.2010

The Throwdown was a blast to watch. I’m on P-team!

Kellie on 11.18.2010

Team P!!!!!!!!

RENEE F. on 11.18.2010

I am for the “P” team, but I would love to have the recipe for the pumpkin bread pudding Bobby made last night. Just to try and see if I may be a “B” girl. LOL

kdubmom on 11.18.2010

PIE!!!!!

Liv M. on 11.18.2010

It’s like choosing between delicious and delicious. Impossible.

Kathy on 11.18.2010

Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without PIE !

Carol on 11.18.2010

I think it will be pie. I am a sucker for a great pecan pie.

Congratulations on your win Ree!!

Marcia S. on 11.18.2010

For sure it will be your pecan pie on my table! Throwdown was GREAT!!!!

Audje on 11.18.2010

We always have a table full of desserts for Thanksgiving – pies, bread puddings, cakes, cheesecakes, you name it. However I would have to go with Team P because Thanksgiving would just not be Thanksgiving without PIE!!

Maggy on 11.18.2010

Is there even a question? PIE!

Kathy W. on 11.18.2010

Although I loooooove me some bread pudding, I am serving pie on Thanksgiving. Pecan pie, to be exact….and a fruit pie (not sure which kind yet). I’m a purist, lol! ;)

laura @ alittlebarefoot on 11.18.2010

i’m with the pie team! the throwdown was so fun, by the way.

Teri Dingler on 11.18.2010

I have made the pecan pie muffins and with a pat of butter on them and nuked in the micro for about 10-15 secondes, they are to die for!!! And I have shared them and then had to share the recipe because they make you want to share them with everyone else! But I want to try some of the others – especially the bars!
