It’s the day after the Thanksgiving Throwdown and there was some mighty fine food being thrown. The dessert round was a battle between pecan pie and pumpkin bread pudding, so we figured it would be fun to have a little re-enactment of that match here today. It’ll be Team B (for Bread Pudding) against Team P (for Pecan Pie) wrestling for a spot on your holiday table.
Anything involving dessert is worth re-enacting, right?
First up, Team B. Moist, rich, comforting bread pudding. In a variety of flavors so you can use your favorite.
Clockwise from top left: Pumpkin Apple Bread Pudding from smokinchestnut, Banana Bread Pudding from Kelly @ EvilShenanigans, Chocolate Bread and Butter Pudding from Bindi, and Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Bread Pudding from Food for my Family.
Team P struts in with pecan pie in different incarnations: bars, muffins, cheesecake, or just dressed up with chocolate.
Clockwise from top left: Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie from A Cozy Kitchen, Maple Pecan Pie Bites from EatLiveRun, Pecan Pie Caramel Cheesecake from Lauren’s Latest, and Pecan Pie Muffins from blackhawkwife (photo by missamy).

I’m usually team pie, but that’s versus cake. I will wholeheartedly stand by bread as top carb and vote for the bread pudding. Especially containing bananas or chocolate or both

Pie!!! Pecan Pie for sure and Sweet Potato Pie, Egg Custard Pie and no telling what else. You did say Thanksgiving was for seconds, thirds & fourths. That’s the way we eat. We have Thanksgiving about 1:00 p.m and stretch it all the way to bedtime.
Katie Grace on 11.18.2010
Pecan Pie. It’s just perfect.
Bread pudding gets gross after a day or so.
Pie all the way!
Christina A. on 11.18.2010
Shouldn’t I try them all before I decide?
Jen R. on 11.18.2010

I’m making the Pumpkin Cream Pie, Mocha Pie and Apple pie this year, and I’m already drooling!

Peggy on 11.18.2010
For Thanksgiving it’s got to be Pecan Pie. But for the record, I tried the recipe for the Pecan Pie Muffins a couple of weeks ago; they were delicious & are likely to be a regular in my house from now on
Natalie on 11.18.2010
There will be pie on our table. Both looked delish in the throw down, but for Thanksgiving it must be pie! Would like to make the whiskey sauce this year, thought.
Sherry on 11.18.2010
I make two pies each year for Thanksgiving, one pecan and the other pumpkin for my boys. Yes Miss Ree you are a movie star in our eyes, good job !!!
Christine Satko on 11.18.2010
Why can’t we have both. I’m voting for both.
Debra S. on 11.18.2010
I like bread pudding but it would not be Thanksgiving without PECAN PIE!! It is almost as important as the turkey & dressing.
Mary on 11.18.2010
I’ll let you know which is better. What I really want is Bobby’s brussell sprout recipe and his cranberry blackberry relish recipe. I was hoping there might be a post with the recipes of everything he and Ree cooked during the Throw Down.

I’m pie all the way, though – apple pie. I’m making yours this year.

Pie pie pie pie pie.
RandomCreativity on 11.18.2010
Cheesecake! Pie is too messy, bread pudding too gross. We have a mild pumpkin swirl cheesecake.
debrios on 11.18.2010

I’m not a huge pie fan, but breads any day. I’ve never tried bread pudding, but I do eat pumpkin bread EVERY Thanksgiving day I don’t see why I wouldn’t enjoy pumpkin bread pudding!
Brooke Bleyl on 11.18.2010

We’re traditional folk at the holidays – it’s almost always pie! Though we are big fans of bread pudding too. My Daddy makes a meeeeeean bread pudding.

There will be pie at our thanksgiving table, but I’m happy to say, I am invited to another who is serving a Southern Thankgiving and she will have bread pudding on her table.
I get the both!!!
kitchenma on 11.18.2010
Chocolate Pecan Pie!! Yumm!
Sarah F. on 11.18.2010
With my family it’s always pie, but I prefer bread pudding. Maybe I’ll make some anyway and refuse to share with the pie-lovers!
Jackie in TX on 11.18.2010
I love them both, but I really think I love bread puddings the best!! I’ve been making one out of those frozen soft pretzels…YUMMY!
kimmyj1962 on 11.18.2010
Absolutely without a doubt… it’s gotta be PIE hands down!
jenna#3 on 11.18.2010
Pumpkin pie with whipped cream and a rustic apple pie with carmel ice cream!
p.s. I LOVED the throw down!!!!
StephanieB on 11.18.2010
100% Pecan Pie….IMO bread pudding is great for a Sunday dinner with the family, but not Thanksgiving worthy!!
Krista on 11.18.2010
I’m going to have to go with bread pudding. I make one every year with a loaf of panettone. I started making it about 3 years ago and this year I have had several requests from my family to not to forget to make it! I will have to try Bobby’s recipe. Saw Throwdown last night and it was so fun. so glad to see you also brine your turkey and use giblets in your gravy! yum! great job!
Marion on 11.18.2010
A Georgia girl will always have Pecan Pie along with Pumpkin Pie.
Can’t wait to try the Pecan Pie Caramel Cheesecake! Yummmmm
Lisa K on 11.18.2010
I’d never push away a serving of bread pudding, but if I had to pick one it would be pie!
