Naked or Dressed?

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Steak (Naked or Dressed). Guest post by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen.

Well, that title caught your attention, I bet! The subject is steak and there are definitely 2 camps. The first is “Meat. Gimme only meat!” And the other is “Drizzle my meat with some luxurious sauce!”

Whether you’re in the nudist camp or love to be seduced by sauce, I’m sure you’ll agree that you can’t beat a well-cooked steak. Um … unless you’re a vegetarian and in that case, head on over here to Tasty Kitchen’s Salad Category!

So, if I was asked the question: How do you like your steak: naked or dressed? I would answer, “Naughtily half-dressed!” I love a creamy, cheesy sauce, just enough sauce to tease. But I also want my steak to show a little skin, baby!

What about you? Do you prefer your steaks Naked or Dressed?

Grilled Steaks with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce

4 steaks of your choice, 1 1/4″ thick (strip, ribeye, sirloin, filet etc.)
2 tablespoons cooking oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Gorgonzola Cream Sauce (see below)

1. Let steaks sit on the counter for 15 minutes to take off the chill. Pat the steaks very dry, brush each side with the oil and season with salt and pepper on both sides (go easy on seasoning the steak with salt—the gorgonzola is a salty cheese).

2. Heat a grill pan or frying pan over high heat. When very hot, add the steaks and cook 3 minutes. Flip the steaks, turn the heat to medium-high and cook for an additional 6 minutes or until you reach desired level of doneness. Let steaks rest. Top with the Gorgonzola Cream Sauce.

Gorgonzola Cream Sauce
Serves 4

1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley or chives
4 ounces crumbled gorgonzola
2 ounces grated parmesan
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

In a small sauce pan over medium heat, stir in heavy cream, parsley or chives, gorgonzola and parmesan cheese. Season with nutmeg. Whisk and let simmer for 30 seconds or until the much of the cheese has melted. Serve the cream sauce over steaks.

Naked all the way! Although I would love a cream sauce like this in a pasta + meat dish. Yummm!

i do love sauces….i love steaks, too. So, I guess I prefer mine ‘half-dressed’. Can’t wait to try this!

I swing both ways on this naked or dressed question. If there’s a sauce rich in mushrooms or any kind of wine, then I’m on board. However, there is nothing like a great piece of meat, buck naked, with a touch of horseradish to make things extra spicy. I feel like I’m about to be censored.

Most of the time – I like my steak streaking from the kitchen to my table…but there is a Jack Daniels peppercorn sauce at a local restaurant that I can’t resist – I just get it on the side and dip a few bites in to get the flavor!

absolutely dressed! it looks amazing!

Naked only.

Carrie is correct, a good steak should be able to stand on its own. If it needs sauce it’s not a good steak, no matter how good the sauce may be. This is why God gave us ground beef.

Of course, men tend to be exhibitionists more than women.

I like my steak commando style 99% of the time — but a green peppercorn sauce done right gets me all riled up!

Rebecca on 5.21.2010

Naked as a jaybird. Of course, I could use a bowl of that gorgonzola cream on the side to eat with a spoon. But the steak itself? Just a little sprinkle of salt and pepper and I’m happy!

Nine times out of ten I do my steak naked with sautéed mushrooms on the side. If and when it’s dressed I like it to have a little melted blue cheese crumbles on top. I don’t think I’ve ever had it with Gorgonzola sauce but that looks fabulous. I think if I had the above meal cooked one night when my husband came home he’d clean the house for a month – no questions asked. :))

Nekkid, nekkid, nekkid. Brisket, ribs, chops, pork loin, steak, shrimp, fish, chicken, whatever. I like it best without sauce. Straight off the BBQ pit if possible, but the grill is the next best thing to smoked meat. If it’s good, it doesn’t need sauce. But I’m not opposed to something saucy on the side to dip the taters in. :~)

Naked with some nice caramelized or sauteed mushrooms (or both) on the side!!

Shea M. on 5.21.2010

I’m somewhere in-between; I love steak with gorgeous caramelized cremini mushrooms, maybe with a little red wine reduction. If I’m feeling especially naughty, I’ll do bleu cheese crumbles, or go all out with a cream sauce. Steak Diane is also pretty wonderful!

(Wow, I haven’t had a steak in months, they kind of worship the pig here in Germany…) Thanks a lot Jaden!!

Sorry, I’m a naked steak kind of girl. Well, naked except for some lovely sautéd onions and mushrooms.

Sara Z. on 5.21.2010

I am not a saucy girl…when it comes to my steaks, anyway ;) I love a good steak with nothing more than a little pepper on top!

Normally i like my steaks naked, but that sauce looks divine enough to put on anything.

Carrie on 5.21.2010

Um, ditto. Although a good steak should be able to stand on its own! That gorgonzola cream sauce sounds…….droolworthy. Am I drooling now? Yes.

Jessica @ How Sweet on 5.21.2010

Dressed! I make a gorgonzola and roasted garlic cream sauce, and I would just bathe in it if I could.
