Description

When you want the flavor of stuffed cabbage, without all the work and hassle, this recipe is the way to go.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Rice
  • 1 whole Onion
  • 1 clove Garlic, Minced
  • 2 stalks Celery, Sliced
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 pound Ground Pork
  • 3 cans (14.5 Oz. Can) Plain Diced Tomatoes
  • 2 whole Bay Leaves
  • 4 cups Water, Plus Additional To Cook Rice
  • ½ heads Cabbage, Shredded
  • 1 Tablespoon Tomato Paste

Preparation

Measure rice into a small mixing bowl; submerge with boiled water. Let sit for 5-8 minutes.

In a heavy pot, saute onions until translucent. Add minced garlic and sliced celery. Cook until fragrant and tender.

Meanwhile, combine ground beef and pork in a large mixing bowl; add drained rice. Using your hands, mix ingredients until combined.

Add meat mixture to the pot, and brown until cooked through. Add diced tomatoes, bay leaves, 4 cups water, shredded cabbage, and tomato paste (can substitute with ketchup). Salt and pepper to taste.

Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for one hour.

Easy to make but very bland tasting. Be prepared to add your own seasoning. Even then it wasn’t that tasty.

Making this again tonight for supper! It is wonderful and delicious! Reminds me of eating stuffed cabbages as a child and this is much easier to make!

My husband and I thought this was great! It was my first cabbage-cooking experience, and it was a good one! Thanks!

Easy to make and very tasty! I substituted with 2 pounds of ground turkey so my husband said it was a little bland. Next time I think I’ll use a can of Italian seasoned tomatoes to add a little more flavor. It made a HUGE pot so we have plenty of leftovers!

This was GREAT! I used arborio rice and sage and leftover chicken and leftover basic marinara sauce. I’ll add an extra head of cabbage next time. Wonderful
