This is THE single, absolute, hands-down, unbeatably BEST recipe on the entire site! If I could give it *ten* mitts, I would. I’ve made this literally dozens of times, it’s that much of a favorite.
The slight modifications I make to it: I leave out the creamed corn (I find the whole corn to be plenty) and I only use a bit of cheese for garnish, rather than mixing that much in.
If you can get the different heat levels of Hatch chopped green chile (easy here in New Mexico, maybe not elsewhere, though), you can use the “medium” or “hot” instead of the mild, and skip the cayenne pepper, if you want. Since I love a strong chile flavor–but not necessarily a strong heat–this is what I do.
Again, seriously, the BEST RECIPE on TK!!! Love, love, love this stuff!

This is amazing, and I agree, the best recipe on the site. we’ve made this twice now and our whole family loves it! There isn’t anything I’d really change though I’ve had to substitute when we don’t have called for items on hand.
FYI I was successfully able to substitute gluten free flour for the regular stuff!

I have made this recipe several times and agree it is the best recipe on the site. Have substituted for whatever I have on hand and it always turns out great. I think it makes closer to 8-10 servings, though. Not a problem, can be refrigerated and re- heated. Love it!

I made this for dinner tonight – super yummy, and once everything is chopped it’s very easy to throw together. I do agree, though – this makes a TON of soup! Hubby and I will be having chowder for the next couple of nights. Good thing it’s YUMMY!

This soup was very good. I followed the recipe for the most part, although I used powdered garlic instead of garlic cloves, I used a little bit of sweet pepper instead of red pepper, and I didn’t put in much frozen corn. My husband and I both thought it needed a thicker potato base, so I dumped some potato flakes in afterwards. I will make this recipe again.

This was SO good! I love soups, especially in the winter–but this one is good enough to make in the heat of summer too! There was a lot of soup, so we froze part of it for later. I will definitely be making this again!

Dee-licious. It was perfect – just a hint of heat, great consistency, and makes wonderful leftovers. Can’t wait to make it again.

This was delicious!! Made it this evening and made just a few small changes… I omitted the creamed corn and I boiled the potatoes separately before adding them to the soup (that way my soup didn’t get starchy). This was a perfect soup for a rainy fall evening. Thanks

Yum! My husband and I really liked this. Since it’s just the 2 of us, and several people commented that it made a big batch, I decreased the chicken broth to 4 c. and the flour/milk to 1/3 c. and 1 1/3 c. I kept all the other quantities the same. Oh, and I didn’t have creamed corn, but will probably use some next time I make it!

Made this last night for the first time, and tried it out on my community group. It was a hit. We enjoyed the rich corn flavor. I only put in 1/8 tsp. of cayenne b/c there are lots of kids in our group, and I wasn’t sure how hot it was going to be. Next time I’d use the full amount.
)
I felt like it needed a lot of salt, so next time I’d use regular chicken broth instead of lower sodium. The cheese is an excellent addition to corn chowder. And we made extra bacon to use as garnish, too. Delish! Thanks!

I just made this for lunch and it was DELICIOUS! I tweeked it a bit because I used what I had… green pepper instead of red, a red onion and unpeeled red potatoes instead of russets (because that’s what I like!) In my opinion, the recipe makes more than four servings. I will definitely make this again…and again! btw, three slices of bacon just isn’t nearly enough! I would suggest at least doubling that.

This was deeeeelish. I made it w/o the chiles and cayenne, because I am 8 months pregnant and EVERYTHING gives me heartburn (water, even!). I bet it will be even better in two days when I made bread bowls for the leftovers!! Thanks!

Wow, I can’t believe how many of you have made this already! I love when people adapt recipes to fit what’s in their fridge and pantry. That’s exactly what I’m striving for in each recipe I develop – a good base that lends itself to variations based on taste and availability. Thanks so much for letting me know about your experiences with these. I hope to see you at my blog.

This looks/sounds exactly like what I have been searching for the last 2 weeks. I can’t wait to try it. Looks delish.

This looks wonderful. I am planning on making this tonight, I was wondering tho if I substituted a drained can of Rotel tomatoes (with diced chilies~mild of course for whimps like me!) would it be ok?..ie…not change the taste of the soup too much?

I am making this as we speak – will let everyone know how it turns out!! Am serving it with buttered french bread.

I made this last night and its out of this world good! The recipe makes way more than 4 servings, more like 8 or 10. I took some for lunch today to work and had several people ask for the recipe just based on how good it smelled and looked!
