My family and I are big fans of the Lofthouse cookies, so I was a bit skeptical to try these.
They were SOOOO good though! At first, I would have given them 4 mitts, because they were yummy, but not much like a Lofthouse cookie.
After sitting overnight though… magic happened! They were a hit with the whole family!!!

I made these over the weekend and they are delicious, just like the real thing. The frosting is incredible. I’m so glad to have this recipe. I will be making it again. This recipe makes enough frosting for possibley 2 batches of cookies or plenty of frosting shooters!

I made two batches of these and colored the icing (using neon colors) to match our high school colors. Served them to the girls’ Cross Country team. Delicious and a hit!

I just made these tonight…at high altitude (no adjustments needed) and my husband has eaten so many, I am contemplating where I can hide the rest. He says to tell you that they don’t need to sit at all and that they are a perfect replica without the weird after taste. I agree…I can’t see how they are going to be better in the morning…hopefully there are some left!
I used LOTS of frosting on each cookie and I still had leftovers. Noshings, you are completely, absolutely amazing!!

I made these cookies for my mom who has a secret obcession with the store bought ones but she hates that they come with sprinkles.
I have to say, these tasted just like the real thing. The dough was really dry and didn’t stick together that well and the cookies baked up crinkly but still I ate about 5 of them! I think its because I used greek yogurt and didn’t use a mixer, just a spoon.
The icing was amazingly delicious too though the recipe made far too much (the extra is sitting in a baggie in the fridge, do you think it’ll freeze okay?)

Turned out great! They taste amazingly like the Lofthouse version and were simple to make! I don’t have a silpat, but baked them on parchment and it turned out just fine.

These are so much easier than I thought they would be. Mine need some work because they don’t look quite right yet but, they taste yummy! This may be my new go-to for cookies. Thank you for sharing!

Tasted just like the Lofthouse cookies in the store! We used the vanilla flavoring for the cookies and frosting.

I love the description. I had cookies like this once, and have had to force myself to walk past them every time I see them in a bakery ever since. They are deadly. But now I have to try the recipe, because the thought that I could actually make them myself is overpowering. I need a 12-step program for cookie addiction. Thanks. Thanks a lot. (wink)

This sounds amazing. I got very sad at the cake mix part, though. I live in Denmark and our cake mix is bad and has no pudding. Sigh, I miss the US!

Just wondering…could you substitute melted butter for the oil? Gosh. I just might have to make two batches and compare them. What a terrible thought.

cait, Im sorry to hear about your icky cake mixes =(
Ive tried dozens of scratch recipes, tweaking and baking, tweaking and baking and none of them come even close to this one.
I suppose you could always add a box of dry pudding mix to a plain cake mix, if you have access to it?
jsiar, lol
you crack me up!
yes, I suppose you could, but since the butter is part water and fat, the texture will be different. =)
let me know!

is it just me or does anyone else love these cookies not only for their taste, but for the way they feel in your teeth when you bite them!!! My family (all boys!!) think I am nuts, but I just love how they feel in my teeth….then my tummy….my hips??? not so much!!!

Embarrassingly dumb question from a novice baker: How do you get the frosting that particular shade of blue? *Never made frosting before* Thank you in advance!
Noshings on 8.25.2010
oh yes, caligal
I hear ya!
allyugadawg, I just used a generic (Kroger/King Soopers) brand of neon food color, the lime green with the electric blue.
More blue than green =)

Explain Lofthouse, please…
And, I didn’t know that Dream Whip was even available any longer… now that is a blast from the past…1950s…???
These look like pure trouble and an additional 10 lbs….Oh my…. YUM
Noshings on 8.25.2010
nursechacha, the lofthouse cookie is a soft pillow of heavenly sugar cookie yumminess.
They also sell a similar type cookie at Sam’s Club and Walmart, I believe.
oh and the Dream Whip powder is still available in the baking aisle of any grocery store, its good for all sorts of things =)
