Instead of the usual apple sauce, try this delicious naturally sweet sauce made with juicy, crunchy Asian pears, flavored with vanilla extract, basil leaves, a touch of brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
1. Peel skin off of the pears, then core them and quarter them.
2. In a large pot, place peeled pears. Add water and add basil leaves. Add lid and turn heat to high. Once water starts to boil, then reduce heat to low, and simmer pears over low heat for 40 minutes.
3. After 40 minutes of simmering, take out the basil leaves and throw them away.
4. Add cooked pears into a blender. Add vanilla extract and brown sugar and blend.
5. Transfer to a bowl and add cinnamon on top.
Place over potato cakes or whatever you desire.
