4 B’s tomato soup is a Montana legend, so, another one we came up with, together. This delicious creamy tomato soup is, according to him, wonderfully close to the original. MUST serve with grilled cheese, of course!
In large pan or dutch oven, saute onion in butter until soft
Add tomatoes, stock and salt and pepper and cook until warmed through
Add baking soda and stir to combine
Add half and half and lower temp and heat to warm through
taste and add more salt and pepper as needed
*The TYPE of tomatoes in this is key, really, so, while subs can be made, I hope you try it just like this, first.

I made this years ago when Keni posted this on another site. I will copy and paste my review, here it is:
I’ve been meaning to try this for some time…and finally did! Me and my daughter devoured ours and yes, I served it with a grilled cheese on the side! Never been to a 4 B’s, but they sure do have good soup!

That’s okay, lwehrli, I’m just glad it was enjoyed! Thanks for the clarification, though.

I made this yesterday — ate it without the cream — very tasty! Passed it on to a friend with the cream, and have yet to hear back from her on it.
Easy to make, and very tasty. I couldn’t find petite diced so used regular diced which made it a little on the chunky side. I also used crushed tomatoes with basil which gave it some extra flavor. I would definitely make it again.

I guess I don’t know what I am doing as far as the rating system goes. This deserves a 5 not a 1.
