A warm, comforting fall salad.
Melt butter in a pan over medium-high heat. Put the onions in a thin layer over the top of the butter. Sprinkle with sugar and salt. Don’t stir the onion until they are soft-looking and the sugar has melted, about 3-5 minutes. Stir and add the ham. Continue cooking until onions are brown and syrupy.
Put lettuce in a bowl. Prep all the other veggies and layer on top of lettuce with the chopped egg. Top with onions and ham, and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. (I like sun-dried tomato vinaigrette with this.)
