Description

In the need to make something quick and delicious for dinner, I have devised a more sophisticated version of the Sloppy Joe that is open-faced and less sloppy: the Un-sloppy Joe. This is a meal that both you and your kids will love, with no soggy buns or falling meat.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Red, Yellow And Orange Bell Peppers
  • ½ cups Sweet Onion
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • 1 pound Ground Sirloin
  • 15 ounces, weight Tomato Sauce
  • 6 ounces, weight Tomato Paste
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ cups Water
  • 1 package King's Hawaiian Rolls
  • 1 cup Shredded Colby-jack Cheese
  • ¼ cups Sour Cream

Preparation

1. Wash peppers in Veggie Wash and drain in a colander in the sink.

2. Cut the ends of the peppers off and cut in half lengthwise. Remove all of the seeds and inside portions of the peppers and dice into medium-sized chunks and set aside.

3. Chop onion and garlic cloves into small pieces and set aside.

4. Heat up olive oil in a large skillet on 250 degrees. Add peppers, onions, and garlic to the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes.

5. Add ground sirloin to the peppers and brown. The sirloin is so lean that you don’t need to drain the grease, since there isn’t any.

6. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire Sauce and water to the meat mixture and stir together with a wooden spoon.

7. Cook at 200 degrees for 10 minutes until sauce has thickened.

8. Open up the package of Hawaiian rolls. These are great; they have a slightly sweet taste and are very moist. Take each roll and cut in half like a bun and put on a plate.

9. Spoon the meat mixture onto the Hawaiian rolls.

10. Add a spoonful of sour cream and sprinkle cheese on the top. Enjoy!
