This meatloaf features oatmeal instead of the traditional breadcrumbs. It makes it so moist! The real secret to this recipe though is in the sauce! My Mom’s meatloaf has been converting meatloaf haters into meatloaf lovers for years!
Preheat oven to 350.
In a large bowl, beat egg and tomato sauce together.
Add beef, oatmeal, onion, salt, pepper and Italian seasoning. Mix well. Pour onto cookie sheet and shape into a loaf.
In a small bowl, make sauce by mixing together brown sugar, ketchup, nutmeg ( don’t be tempted to leave out this key ingredient!! It really makes the sauce special!) and dry mustard. Spread sauce on top of meatloaf.
Bake for 45 minutes-1 hour.

Loved this, but used 2 cups of marinara instead of the tomato sauce. It added more flavor! Did have to add a few bread crumbs to add more texture, but this is a keeper for us! It’s a great new twist on an old favorite!

Delicious! Made it tonight for my girlfriend and our roommate and everyone loved it. We’re not big fans of nutmeg so we substituted the nutmeg for some Old Bay for spice. Will be making again!

This was so good last night – it’s officially my meatloaf recipe from now on. I added a little crushed red pepper to the meat mixture to kick it up a little, but the nutmeg in the sauce – you can’t even believe what it does – it’s nothing like I thought it might be – so much better!!
