Description

A roll baked with a tasty gyro filling inside.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BREAD:
  • 1 Tablespoon Yeast
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil
  • 1-½ teaspoon Salt
  • 2-¼ cups Warm Water
  • 5 cups Flour
  • _____
  • FOR THE FILLING:
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 pound Ground Lamb
  • 1 Tablespoon Marjoram
  • 1 Tablespoon Rosemary
  • ½ whole Chopped Onion
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Pepper

Preparation

To make the bread: Combine the yeast, sugar, oil and salt in the warm water. After the yeast has bubbled, add the flour and mix well. Knead (with a mixer or by hand), cover and let rise until doubled (about an hour). Roll out on a floured counter into a rectangle. Cut into 16 squares.

To make the filling: Put all the filling ingredients into a food processor and mix together until smooth.

Place 2–3 tablespoons of meat mixture in the middle of each dough square. Fold the corners up to meet in the middle. Pinch to seal.

Bake 25 minutes at 375ºF.

Brush with butter when they come out of the oven.

Jessiks, No you don’t need to cook it first. It cooks inside the roll.

This might be a dumb question – but do you cook the lamb & beef before it’s put into the roll?
