Description

My best friends in Germany introduced this to me and I tweaked it a bit because it’s the perfect recipe for those packages of pre-cooked fajita meat you can grab at Costco. This is so easy to whip together and your man will love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 package Frozen Beef Fajitas, Thawed OR 4 Thin Steaks, Sliced
  • Olive Oil
  • 1 whole Medium Onion
  • 3 whole Bell Peppers (1 Each Red, Green, Yellow), Diced
  • 2 whole Carrots, Diced
  • 1 stalk Leek
  • 2 whole White Mushrooms, Diced
  • 2 whole Large Tomatoes, Peeled
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Steak Seasoning
  • 1 pinch Salt And Pepper
  • 1 loaf Crusty Rye Or French Bread
  • 1 block (8 Oz) Cream Cheese Or Creme Fraiche, Softened

Preparation

1. Melt a little olive oil in a deep skillet and heat fajita strips (or cook until nice and brown if using fresh steaks). Remove meat and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, saute onion until it starts to turn clear. Add the rest of the vegetables. Saute until tender.
3. Add spices and meat; mix well. (You can tweak the spices any way you like. We tend to up the spices when using fresh steaks, and use less steak seasoning when using frozen fajitas.)
4. Slice bread into thick slices. (Good dark bread like rye or pumpernickel is best!) Serve meat mixture over bread and top with cream cheese or creme fraiche. OR, to make things even better, toss the cream cheese in when you add the spices and meat and mix it all together.

Serve with sparkling mineral water to get the real German experience. Delicious!
