I figured that you can fry hamburgers just like you do chicken fried steak. You just can’t go wrong battering and frying meat in our house.
So I fried some up for dinner and let me tell you I think that I might even like these better than Chicken Fried Steak. The breading is crispy and when you add on the dipping sauce, perfection!
1. Mix together flour, pepper, paprika and whiskey steak seasoning in a medium-sized bowl. (You can get the Whiskey Steak Seasoning from Cabela’s Outdoor store. If you don’t have one close by, then you can order it online or from their catalog.) Set aside.
2. Mix together milk and eggs in a medium-sized bowl. Beat with a whisk until frothy.
3. Shape sirloin into 6 medium-sized patties.
4. Pour enough oil into a large skillet to cover the pan about 1/4 inches deep. Heat oil up to 350 degrees.
5. Set your bowl of egg mixture and your bowl of flour mixture side-by-side.
6. Dip the burgers into the egg mixture. Then dip into the flour mixture, coating both sides.
7. Now do it all over again… Dip the burgers back into the egg mixture. Then the flour mixture. This gives them a double coating that sticks to the meat, and the breading won’t fall off during frying.
8. Put the battered hamburgers into the hot skillet.
9. Fry the burgers on each side for about 5 minutes or until browned. Continue to flip the burgers until they’re cooked on the inside.
10. While your burgers are cooking, get a large plate and put 6 or 7 paper towels on the top and set by the skillet. Once cooked, put the chicken fried burgers on the paper towel-covered plate to drain.
11. Put your sandwich thins on a plate.
12. Mix up your French Fry Sauce and spread a thick layer on each half of the bun. To make the sauce, mix the ketchup, mustard and sour cream together in a bowl and stir until creamy.
13. Then stack on your piece of cheese and then your hamburger patty. Throw on the top bun, put on a plate and enjoy!
