I would say yes, it does need to be covered with foil. I made this last night, and kept it covered the entire time. I have edited the recipe to add that information.

Thanks Sarah! It’s been a long time since I made this, so your ideas may be something I have done and forgot to mention. I’m going to add it to the menu for the coming week to try and will edit as necessary! Thanks again!

is this dish supposed to be covered with foil for the 2 hour cook time?!?! I didn’t cover it and it did something funky to the cabbage on top

Making this now! I hope I didn’t screw it up…I used a can of v8 instead of the tomato juice, just because i had a brain fart at the store and thought thats what was meant lol. I will say it smells quite deicious cooking and the meat smelled amazing once the seasonings and everything were in it…i was only able to use about 3/4ths of the head of cabbage. I’ll rate it tonight after we eat it!!!

as the recipe is I would rate it a 3 out of 5….I think it probably should have been covered while cooking to soften the cabbage a bit more….also I think the cabbage should have been shred and then layered that way because the way it is written the cabbage gets a little rubbery and rough to cut and eat. The flavor was excellent and my 2 year old scarfed it (he normally won’t eat meat)….I will be trying this recipe again with the changes I mentioned…it was very tasty and hit the spot!
