Description

Similar to Rice Crispy Treats and just as easy. We’ve been making these my whole life, so I don’t know where the recipe came from. My mother asks for a whole pan of them just for her at Christmas time. I eat them anytime, convincing myself that because they’re made of peanut butter and Cheerios, they’re healthy—heck, even okay for breakfast!

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Peanut Butter (not Chunky And Not All Natural)
  • ⅓ cups Butter
  • 36 pieces Large Marshmallows
  • 5 cups Cheerios (store Brand Is Just Fine)

Preparation

Melt peanut butter, butter and marshmallows in a double boiler. Pour over Cheerios and mix well. Press in a 9 x 13 pan. Cool and then cut into squares.

Note: I’ve found that the slower you melt the marshmallows and peanut butter, the softer the chewiness of the final product is. After you’ve made these awhile, you’ll know what I mean. If you melt everything too fast, it gets an almost hard, chewy peanut brittle quality to it, rather than a soft chewy marshmallowiness. I highly suggest doubling the recipe, at least.

these are really tasty! however, next time I will double the marshmallow/peanut butter/butter mixture because it was not nearly enough for 5 cups of Cheerios. also, I used a double boiler but the marshmallows never really melted so I ended up finishing them off in the microwave.

These are a favortie in our house. Quick, yummy, and with the cheerios and peanut butter, I like to pretend they’re somewhat healthy. =)
