This cookie is a sentimental favorite. They were the first cookies I made for my family that was not one of my Mom’s recipes. She made such a wonderful fuss about them, it still brings me to tears! I have tweaked and improved the recipe over the years, but when I make them for home or to bring for the holidays, everyone still says “Oh, Nana’s favorite cookies!”
Pre Heat Oven to 400 degrees
Grate orange peel for 3 Tbls
In mixer on low combine granulated Sugar, Shortening, 2 Tbls Orange Peel, 1/2 Cup Orange Juice and Egg – blend well, about 2 minutes.
Mix on low, slowly adding flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt – blend well, scraping sides for 1 to 2 minutes.
Drop by rounded teaspoons (about walnut sized) onto nonstick or greased cookie sheets.
Bake until edges are light brown, about 8 minutes.
Cool and Frost
