No one cooks like grandma. These sugary sweet, gooey oatmeal raisin cookies have been around for 75 years. I’m happy to share my Grandma Gertrude’s great recipe.
1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
2. Rinse and drain raisins. Combine with shortening and water. Heat until only shortening melts, stirring constantly. Cool.
3. Stir in sugar and vanilla.
4. Combine flour with salt, soda, and cinnamon. Blend into raisin mixture. Stir in oats.
5. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.
6. Bake about 10 minutes, until golden brown. Cool cookies on wire rack.
