A recipe from my grandmother’s cookbook. A simple cookie with pecans wrapped around a cherry and rolled in icing sugar.
Blend butter, sugar and vanilla thoroughly. Sift flour and salt together and stir in. Mix in nuts. Chill dough.
Heat oven to 400F.
Wrap a heaping teaspoonful of dough completely around a cherry for each cookie. Be sure the cherries are dry.
Set cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. Cookies will be set but not brown. While warm, roll cookies in icing sugar. Cool and roll again in sugar.
Makes 4 dozen.

@Renee – if you “crack” the walnuts well enough, I think they’d work just fine!

One of my favorite types of cookie. Adding the cherry is a great idea. Hmmm, penny wolf’s kiss and your cherry ones, sounds like a smashing Valentine combination.
