Give your oatmeal a makeover with this caramelized apple topping.
In a medium saute pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the apples and saute about two minutes. Add the brown sugar and continue to saute until the apples are soft and the brown sugar is dissolved. Stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste for seasoning, adding more cinnamon or nutmeg if preferred. Divide oatmeal among two bowls. Top with apple mixture and walnuts, if using. Serve immediately.
