Description

Quick, easy, delicious breakfast that your children will love to watch “grow” while baking! Only five ingredients that you always have in your kitchen!

Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 6 whole Eggs
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Flour

Preparation

Move your oven rack to the second to lowest level. The pancake will grow very high and need the room! (In the picture above, it had settled while I took pictures!)

Melt butter in a 9×13 inch pan by putting it into a 450ºF oven for 3 minutes or until melted. Watch it carefully so it doesn’t burn!

In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients. Batter will be lumpy. Pour into your buttered 9×13 pan. Bake at 450ºF for 20 minutes. Serve immediately.

Great topped with syrup, powdered sugar, fruit, or applesauce.

I make this all the time, but a trick of mine is to melt the butter in a skillet with a sliced apple and some brown sugar and cinnamon. I pour this mixture into my casserole dish and put it in the preheated oven while I make the batter. Pour the batter on top of the apples and DO NOT stir! It’s sooo good!

This brings back fond memories. A girlfriend and I, years ago, used to make this for each other during our standard “date”, a Sunday morning brunch. :)

This is a family favorite of ours as well. We call it Dutch Baby and if you put everything in the blender for a minute or two, it will come out smooth with no lumps.
We also like to add spices like vanilla, cinnamon, nut meg, cloves. I even added an apple pie spice to it one time. Or to really shake it up a bit, put a spoonful or two of peanut butter in when you blend it. The kids LOVED that one.
Always turns out very yummy! =)

This is an awesome recipe on many fronts. First of all, it is SUPER easy to make. I mean…5 commonly stocked ingredients?! Can’t get much better than that. Secondly, my kids (and husband) thought how high this pancake rose was super cool. They got a lot of entertainment watching it through the oven door. Most importantly, this was SUPER good. And it’s much more high protein than other pancakes. I made a berry sauce and let my kids make up their own slices. They liked it with berries and whipped cream, with syrup, and with powdered sugar or any combo of those things. Add a side of bacon or sausage and you have yourself an awesome, easy supper. My 8 year old boy loaded his up with berries and whip cream, took one bite, and said, “Mom! You really outdid yourself this time!” And that pretty much sums it up. Awesome recipe. Thanks for sharing!

I loved it! I think it tasted like a cross between pancakes & french toast. I liked that it had so many eggs in it for protein. Yummy!
