Description

These are SO easy and delicious, you’ll soon be making excuses to make these. And nobody will stop you.

Ingredients

  • 1-¼ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ cups Cheddar, Shredded Or Cubed
  • ½ cups Milk
  • 6 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • Parsley Flakes, For Garnish (optional)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a large mixing bowl, sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Add cheddar and milk, and mix with a fork until mixed well, when the dough follows the fork around the bowl. Place 1 tablespoon of dough on a greased cookie sheet, making sure the dough balls stay 2 inches apart. Place in the oven and bake for 12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and biscuits are golden.

While the biscuits are in the oven, make the garlic butter. Melt the butter, and stir in garlic powder and parsley (if using). When biscuits come out of the oven, immediate baste them with the garlic butter. Let stand for a few minutes, and ravenously enjoy.

I just made these. I followed the recipe exactly and even baked them two minutes longer than called for because they weren’t done. They came out chewy and doughy. They need to be lighter and more fluffy. I think that the addition of some oil or butter to the dough, as well as some baking soda and buttermilk would lighten them up. The butter/garlic topping redeems this. If it weren’t for this, they wouldn’t be worth eating.

Overall, I found these delightfully simple. I’m a college student, living in a residence hall, so my resources are limited (both in space and equipment). When I made them, I just chopped up the cheddar because I don’t have a cheese grater. This made for larger chunks, obviously, and I think I would like them better with more uniform cheese distribution. I can’t wait to make them again, because I found the flavor delicious!
