Description

Super easy, super fluffy drop biscuits that you can dress up or down as you choose.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Cream Of Tartar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cups Butter, Softened
  • 1 cup Milk

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt. Stir to mix. Add the softened butter, mix until it forms coarse crumbs. Add the milk. Stir just until mixed. If you over mix the batter, the biscuits will be tough. Place by spoonfuls (about 1/4 cup to make 15 biscuits) onto a greased or parchment covered sheet pan. Bake until puffed and golden, about 15 minutes.

I like them with cheese, myself. But they’re plenty good plain (think: sausage & biscuits or with jam). Throw in herbs if you like (1-2 teaspoons of dried herbs is about right). If you want to add shredded cheese, use about 1 cup total. Put 3/4 of it in the dough and the rest gets sprinkled on top.

I made these tonight and they were super easy to make! I added some fresh basil and mozzarella to the dough. Can’t wait to play around with the cheeses, etc. Thinking about adding sausage and cheese in the dough for a breakfast biscuit. YUM!

Very good! I really like this recipe for drop biscuits because it has less butter than other recipes I’ve used, but still makes delicious, fluffy biscuits. I used these to top a chicken stew, so I omitted the sugar and added thyme. Next time I will try them with cheese!

I made these tonight and they turned out great! My first successful biscuit! So happy! This is definitely going into my recipe box. I used and ice cream scoop for dropping. Thanks for sharing!!

I have never successfully made biscuits, until now :)
They worked!! Super easy and I’m super proud of myself. Not sure what my biscuit problem was but whatever it was this recipe got me over the hump. Will make again. I got 9 biscuits and cooked them for 11 minutes. I suspect my scooping with the 1/4 cup measure was a little generous.

Super quick, easy, and yummy! Next time I might make a half batch so I don’t eat as many! (I love having that problem with a recipe! :) )
