Description

I often play the game, “Cook everything in my freezer, fridge and cupboard.” I feel empowered and alive making ends meet and providing a tasty meal for my family. This recipe was born from just such a game.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Stew Beef
  • 1 package McCormick's Pulled Pork Seasoning (1.6 Ounce Packet)
  • 1 bottle Beer (12 Ounce Bottle, Divided Use)
  • 1-½ cup Beef Broth, Divided Use
  • ½ cups Bown Sugar
  • 4 cups Red Potatoes, Quartered
  • 1 bag Mini Carrots (1 Pound Bag)

Preparation

With pay day next week and a make due attitude, I came up with the following yummy dinner last night.

Toss 1 pound of stew beef together with 1 packet of McCormick’s pulled pork seasoning. Crazy, I know, using a pork seasoning with beef but I was playing by the rules of the game and only using things in my fridge, freezer or cupboard.

Put the mixture into a Dutch oven. Pour 1/2 bottle of beer and 1 cup of beef broth in. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar in and stir. Bring to a boil once it boils, put it into a 225F degree oven. Let it cook for 8 hours.

Half way through the 8 hours, add remaining beer and 1/2 cup of stock. After 8 hours, I added in 4 cups of cut up red potatoes and the bag of mini carrots I had in the fridge. Let it cook for another hour and it was pure perfection.

I made the “Light and Fluffy Biscuits” recipe also found on TastyKitchen. Perfectly easy family dinner that cost me next to nothing.
