Description

Simple and easy to make marinara sauce that is full of flavor and so much better than the stuff from the jar!

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • ½ cups Yellow Onion, Diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 2 Tablespoons Sherry Or Wine (optional)
  • 1 can (28 Oz. Size) Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 can (14 Oz. Size) Petite Diced Tomatoes
  • 3 Tablespoons Fresh, Flat-leaf Parsley, Chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Basil Or Basil Paste (I Used Gourmet Garden Basil Paste)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • ¼ teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated Sugar
  • ¾ teaspoons Kosher Salt

Preparation

In a large saucepan or pot over medium high heat add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot add in the diced onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the minced garlic and saute another minute. Add in the tomato paste and wine and mix everything together for another minute. Pour in the cans of crushed tomatoes and diced tomatoes and stir. Add in the remaining ingredients and stir once more.

Bring the sauce to a boil, then cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve over your favorite pasta.

Notes:
– The sherry or wine are optional, but they add great flavor.
– This sauce can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for later use.
