An easy, delicious meal. Get your red meat fix by marinating sirloin steaks in a whiskey-brown sugar mixture for 30 minutes. Serve with lots of fresh veggies and some warm bread.
Combine the brown sugar and the whiskey in a medium-sized bowl (use one with a cover because you’ll need it in a second) and mix until the sugar is dissolved. Add the cranberries and steaks, turning to coat steaks with the marinade. Cover the bowl and marinate in the refrigerator for 10 to 30 minutes.
Heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Transfer steaks, cranberries and marinade to the hot skillet. Leave the steaks alone and let them cook for 5 minutes. Remove the cranberries from the skillet with a slotted spoon once they have plumped, about 5 minutes. Set them aside.
Cook steaks to desired doneness. For medium rare, they should be slightly firm and have a warm red center, about 5 to 7 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 140 F. Remove steaks from the skillet when done and allow them to rest before cutting. Serve the steaks with the cranberries.
