Description

Just like the ones at the grocery store, but even better!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Cake Flour
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Butter, Room Temperature
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2  Large Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Sour Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • FOR FROSTING:
  • ½ cups Unsalted Butter, Softened
  • 3 cups Confectioners Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Food Coloring (optional)

Preparation

In a medium bowl, combine cake flour, baking powder and salt and set aside.

Using an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in eggs one at a time, stirring after each addition. Stir in sour cream and vanilla until combined. Gradually add in flour mixture until combined.

Chill dough for at least one hour in refrigerator.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll 3 tablespoons of dough into a ball. Use flour on your hands if needed. Place ball on the baking sheet and flatten to about 1/2 inch thick, molding sides to keep the round shape if necessary. Continue with remaining dough, placing each 2 inches apart.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. Cool for a few minutes on baking sheet, and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost when cooled.

For the frosting, using an electric mixer, combine butter and gradually add in confectioner’s sugar. When all sugar is added, pour in milk and vanilla and blend on medium speed until fluffy. Add in food color if desired.

Have you ever added lemon flavor and/or lemon peel to these? I bet it would be good…

These were incredible ~ my new favorite! They weren’t super sweet so the frosting was a delicious addition. I will make these often.

Loved these! A big hit with the teenage girl crowd. Make sure the dough is very cold before rolling into balls otherwise it’s a little sticky to deal with.

I chose this recipe because I didn’t want to roll and cut out cookies and the ingredients were basic. I did substitute AP flour and cornstarch for the cake flour, but otherwise followed it to a T. They were so completely delicious, my family went nuts over them! Thank you for sharing this, Jennifer.

I just used the icing part of this recipe today to ice the sugar cookies I made for Santa. My boys loved it for the decorating but I loved the taste. It is spot on and so easy to work with. It tastes wonderful and is so easy to color and spread. Thanks!
