Looks Delicious! Banana Bread with Streusel Topping

Posted by in Looks Delicious!

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Looks Delicious! (Banana Bread with Streusel Topping, recipe submitted by Laurie McNamara of Simply Scratch.

This isn’t an effort to woo Ree over to the dark banana side. But if this doesn’t help, I don’t know what can. Tasty Kitchen member Laurie shares this incredible-looking recipe for Banana Bread with Streusel Topping and oh, this bread has so many good things going for it.

First, she roasts the bananas. That step alone sold me. Then, she ups the ante and makes a streusel jazzed up with walnuts and cinnamon. Hungry yet?

I made the mistake of visiting Laurie’s blog Simply Scratch on an empty stomach. By the time I got to the photo of the still-warm slice of banana bread with the butter melting on it, my tummy made a noise I once heard while hiking in the woods.

The ingredient list is fairly simple and if you have bananas and some walnuts (or even pecans) handy, chances are you have all you need to make this. If you do, don’t forget to invite me over!

Thanks, Laurie, for the wonderful, growl-inducing recipe!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Looks Delicious! Barbecue Sauces

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Looks Delicious! Barbecue Sauces

Chipotle Lime BBQ Sauce, submitted by TK member Jackie of La Casa de Sweets. Peach Barbecue Sauce, submitted by TK member Gerry Speirs of Foodness Gracious.

These recipes caught my eye because I love barbecued anything and I’m still dreaming of some amazing pulled pork I enjoyed last weekend. Plus I love chipotle, so Jackie’s spicy and tangy Chipotle Lime BBQ Sauce is right up my alley. I’ve also got some peaches to use up, and they add a nice sweetness to Gerry’s fresh Peach Barbecue Sauce.

These make great mop sauces but I think they’d also be a wonderful base for a BBQ pizza. Or slather them on burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches for an extra special sandwich!

Thank you, Jackie and Gerry!

Looks Delicious! Basic Granola

Posted by in Looks Delicious!

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Looks Delicious! (Basic Granola, submitted by TK member Stephanie Walker of Flavor from Scratch)

At the beginning of the week, I have good intentions about preparing homemade ingredients for breakfasts and often end up falling back on frozen waffles or the same old scrambled eggs. We’re overdue for something different this week, and some crunchy, slightly sweet granola sounds like the perfect thing to get us out of our breakfast rut.

This Basic Granola from TK member Stephanie Walker works great when you just want a simple granola without all the extras, or if you’re serving it to those who might turn up their noses at additions like nuts. I’m looking at you, kids. Either way, this recipe is delicious as is, or can be customized with shredded coconut, dried fruit, or anything you can think to add! Enjoy with yogurt for breakfast or snack on it in the afternoon when you need a nibble of something sweet.

Have a tasty week!

Looks Delicious! Blueberry-Pomegranate Granita

Posted by in Looks Delicious!

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Looks Delicious! (Blueberry-Pomegranate Granita, submitted by TK member Natalie Perry of Perry's Plate)

This Blueberry-Pomegranate Granita from our dear friend Natalie (she of the wonderful Perrys’ Plate blog) has a fresh and tart flavor that’s perfect at the end of a hearty meal. Or as a quick, guilt-free snack. And look at that color!

You only need 5 or 6 ingredients, a blender, and a container in the freezer to make this refreshing granita. You can even change up the fruits and juice to create your own flavors.

Thanks for sharing this in your recipe box, Natalie!

I know it’s probably still cold in many places but I desperately want the warm weather to be here already. Maybe if we start talking frozen treats, spring weather will come sooner. So tell us, do you have any favorite flavors for granita or slushies or sorbets or anything else frozen except what’s on the ground that refuses to go away?

(I hear overstaying winters can make some people cranky. Not that I’d know anything about it.)

Come share your favorite flavors in the comments. In the meantime, stay warm, think spring-y thoughts, and wherever you are, I hope the flowers and buds are starting to make their appearance!

Looks Delicious! Butternut Squash Lentil Soup

Posted by in Looks Delicious!

It’s that time of year when my soup pot starts getting a workout. Just about every cool fall day, what sounds the absolute best is a hearty, comforting bowl of soup. It’s so easy to get it simmering and then put a quick salad together and throw some bread in the oven. I have also […]
