It’s the day after the Thanksgiving Throwdown and there was some mighty fine food being thrown. The dessert round was a battle between pecan pie and pumpkin bread pudding, so we figured it would be fun to have a little re-enactment of that match here today. It’ll be Team B (for Bread Pudding) against Team P (for Pecan Pie) wrestling for a spot on your holiday table.
Anything involving dessert is worth re-enacting, right?
First up, Team B. Moist, rich, comforting bread pudding. In a variety of flavors so you can use your favorite.
Clockwise from top left: Pumpkin Apple Bread Pudding from smokinchestnut, Banana Bread Pudding from Kelly @ EvilShenanigans, Chocolate Bread and Butter Pudding from Bindi, and Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Bread Pudding from Food for my Family.
Team P struts in with pecan pie in different incarnations: bars, muffins, cheesecake, or just dressed up with chocolate.
Clockwise from top left: Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie from A Cozy Kitchen, Maple Pecan Pie Bites from EatLiveRun, Pecan Pie Caramel Cheesecake from Lauren’s Latest, and Pecan Pie Muffins from blackhawkwife (photo by missamy).
You be the judge! Will it be pie or bread pudding on your table? Cast your vote!

Loved watching you last night. A real treat. But I’m curious, when was the show filmed? Thanks for a great year of enjoying your whole site. Hoss, my Bassett, and I wish you a yours a delicious Thanksgiving. Would love to try the pumpkin pie bread pudding, also.

I know this will be hard to believe but Ive never tasted bread pudding or pecan pie. I have to say that the pecan pie you made on the throwdown did look yummy. I think, I’ll have to try me some.
Happy Thanksgiving every one.

Bread pudding…only if it has a pie-like crust. Oh, and a vanilla bourbon sauce is a MUST!

Pie, without a doubt. (because I could go the rest of my life without bread pudding and that would NOT make me sad in the least!)

Pie—and lots of them. We make everyone’s favorite pie for thanksgiving—we’ve had up to 13 different ones before–heaven–oh, and hips—but we won’t go there—
alicia hodges on 11.18.2010

Every year it’s pecan pie. How about changing it up? I vote for Team B. Bread pudding for the win!!!
okieqt on 11.18.2010
Pie wins every time, but pumpkin trumps at Thanksgiving! Not a fan of pecan pie. Bread pudding gets my vote!
heidihj on 11.18.2010
I would definitely say pie!!
Kristie on 11.18.2010
I’m absolutely a bread pudding over any kind of pie kind of girl. But Thanksgiving isn’t all about me (is it???) so I’d probably make pie if I were baking. But instead our family is taking a 6 day road trip through our state to look at colleges and we’ll have Thanksgiving in a restaurant! I know sick, but it’s kind of a tradition with all of the sports the kids have been in tournaments for over Thanksgiving.
Aria on 11.18.2010
PIEEE! PIE PIE PIEEE! Not because I don’t have an (unhealthy) love of bread pudding but mostly because when, any other time of the year, are you going to get pecan, sweet potato, or pumpkin pie?! (I apologize for my horrendous grammar!)
Maureen on 11.18.2010
Definitely pie!
Bonnie on 11.18.2010
It has to be pecan pie for me.
Loved the show last night and was glad you won.
Cathy on 11.18.2010
Definately the pie!
Kelsey on 11.18.2010
Pie! Hands Down!!
Claire on 11.18.2010
Without a doubt, pie is the winner in my mind.
Sandy on 11.18.2010
Pie for sure…maybe bread pudding for practice round the week end before!
Amy Pence on 11.18.2010
no contest….pecan pie…hands down
smokinchestnut on 11.18.2010
Oh, and I will vote for Team B, of course.
smokinchestnut on 11.18.2010
Wow, my first recipe post on TK … and my recipe is the center of a showdown! I love it!! I love this site and am so glad I finally started my blog not too long ago. The rest of these recipes look delicious, can’t wait for Thanksgiving!
sally on 11.18.2010
I so love bread pudding
Annie B on 11.18.2010
I wasn’t planning on making anything but pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, but after watching the Throwdown with me, my husband now is requesting pecan pie…his favorite. I don’t know why I don’t make it very often, it’s very simple to make and deeelicious!
Jess on 11.18.2010
I’m sure everyone has said this a dozen times already but. I can’t believe Bobby thought he could win without mashed potatoes or pie! If I was invited to that Thanksgiving dinner I would assume they burnt the pie and salvaged a dessert of bread pudding in a pinch. I couldn’t taste the food, but you were clearly the winner when it comes to common sense. (No offense, Bobby.)

So, we are among the 12 people left in North America w/o cable. Will you be able to post any of the footage from the program so that the Food Channel-deprived people can see it?
