I have a problem.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to a supermarket without adding a package of fatty porky goodness in my cart. Or approached a new menu without scanning first for a dish containing the “b” word. My weakness? An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.
Some might call it a obsession; my husband just accepts my problem and counts his blessings that my thrill is cheap. Because my fixation could have been diamonds, Gucci purses or something that would require a line of credit to fulfill.
But I think my addiction has rubbed off on a certain little someone who’s barely even tall enough to reach the goods at the buffet line.
And like any obsession … it starts with one.
But with enough focus, bravery, stretch and dexterity …
One can easily say, “Like mother, like son.”
What’s your food obsession? Come on—we all have one! Though I fully understand that yours may be healthier, like chickpeas or wheatgrass (which tastes like 5th grade phys-ed class field hockey rotation).

Chocolate. Bread. Chocolate on bread or in bread! Not the cheap ones either. Expensive, fattening habit!
ComfortablyDomestic on 6.24.2010
Definitely sweets: cake, cookies, & brownies are my favorites. After the sweets, I like salty, like a good salty cheese, or bacon, or both.

I’m with Karen – mayonnaise. Has to be Hellmann’s. My family even eats bread and mayo sandwiches. I like mayo and peanut butter sandwiches myself. I love bacon too but since I don’t cook it at home I don’t get it too often.

I may mention bacon at every turn. and everytime I try sa new recipe the first thing i think is, “hmmm, Bacon would be good in this.” My boyfriend teases me mercilessly about it. and then enjoys every last bite.

Chips and dip. Salsa, queso, chili, spinach, spinach and artichoke, guacamole, bean… If I can scoop it up with a salty, crunchy chip, I want it by the truckload.
Anna on 6.22.2010
It’s hard to choose just one.. I LOVE breads a lot!! However, I also love peanuts; a peanut butter sandwich, peanuts in a trail mix, peanut butter granola bars, peanut butter cups, oh my!
Tracy on 6.22.2010
Soup..it is so hard to go into a restaurant without ordering it. (Unless all they have is seafood, I’m allergic, so I usually check before I go.) I love brothy soups, filled with chunks of tomatos and vegetables and think soothing soup, any variety will do. Soup is my favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, my body is a little water balloon and I have to severly limit salt so my obsession, beautiful low calorie, healthy food is something I have to avoid.
BTW, never knew so many people loved bacon so much!
Katherine on 6.21.2010
Gournet chocolate. I’ve lost 100 lbs in the last couple of years, so I don’t eat much bread, or pasta or bacon. But I always have “emergency chocolate!” One piece of Godiva or Green and Blacks can go a long way!

Steak. As in Ribeye, NY Strip, Porterhouse….I get physically ill if I don’t get enough red meat. I know it’s not the best health-wise, but I honestly cannot help it! I’d choose meat over chocolate or well, anything else every single time.
Julie on 6.21.2010
Dole Sensations Watermelon juice. I’ve been downing a carton every week since I first discovered it.

Chili peppers and avocados! I have 5 chili plants soaking up the rays on my front lawn and an avocado just waiting to be opened and slathered on bread for breakfast.
kraftykritter on 6.20.2010
Olive oil, particularly pouring it over freshly ground black pepper and dipping in warm ciabatta (or anything thick, crusty bread). I had this at an Italian restaurant and now I just crave it.
larealme on 6.20.2010
Oh, and I have this strange obsession with mustard, too. Any and all kinds of it. I actually have a collection growing in my fridge!
larealme on 6.20.2010
Mine currently is chocolate and pretzels, together. I am in a torrid love affair as I type with the dark chocolate Pretzel Slims from Trader Joes! Lordy, but you can always tell what the good stuff is in the snack aisle there when you have to climb a freezer to get to the last 2 bags at the back of the top shelf! It’s like that every time I go there, too. I’m lucky I can find a bag or three.
LaraQ on 6.20.2010

Mayonnaise. Homemade mayonnaise, store-bought mayonnaise, flavored mayonnaise. I eat it on everything, and use it as an ingredient as much as I can get away with. Help me please, but I believe that I could eat it straight.
Don’t weep for me. I’m already dead.
Kristin on 6.19.2010
Oh!! I LOVE bacon too!! But I think my real obsession would be homemade Toll House chocolate chip cookies.
Margaret Goss on 6.19.2010
My obsession is crunchy peanut butter. It is very filling and will satisfy my sweet tooth. I love anything with peanut butter!
Courtney on 6.19.2010

Josephine on 6.19.2010
Peanut butter, and pasta; sometimes together
Laurie on 6.19.2010
Spaghetti with meat sauce. I have to have it at least every couple weeks or my body goes into withdrawal. Pizza is a close second. Third would probably be potato chips or bacon.
grannie on 6.19.2010
Don’t even think about getting that last bit of banana pudding. It’s mine, all MINE! I could eat nothing but banana pudding all day and be a happy woman.

Butter, Bacon, Dark Dove Chocolate, My Home Grown Tomatoes, and Sour Cherries….To name a few.

Small mom and pop burger joints. Don’t get between me and my burger. I love the secret sauce and I’m especially thrilled when they toast the buns on the grill. Frisco Freeze here I come!
