Description

I had to come up with something that both utilized the annual leftover holiday ham and would still be something my 3 kids would ALL eat. Over the years, I’ve learned which beans they will and will NOT eat, so instead of grabbing the bag of 15-bean soup, I now do it THEIR way. And they EAT it! :)

Ingredients

  • Leftover Ham And Bone
  • Enough Water To Cover Ham
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder, Or 3 Cloves, Minced Fine
  • 1 Tablespoon Dried Rosemary, Crumbled
  • ½ Tablespoons Celery Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ground Pepper
  • 2 cans (14.5 Oz. Can) Diced, Seasoned Tomatoes
  • 1 can (10.75 Oz. Can) Tomato Soup
  • 1 can Each Of Your/The Kids' Favorite Bean(s) (15 Oz. Can)

Preparation

Trim your ham of excess fat. Place ham in a stew pot just big enough to fit. Toss in the garlic, rosemary, celery salt and pepper. Add water JUST to cover ham. Bring to a boil, then turn heat to a medium-low setting and let simmer for an hour.

Remove ham and trim off the bone, shredding or cutting the meat into bite-sized pieces as you go. Strain the ham broth into another pot. Add ham pieces, diced tomatoes, and tomato soup. Simmer at medium-low heat for 30 minutes, then add the beans. Simmer for another 30 minutes.

Serve with crusty bread, garlic bread or your favorite rolls.

This is a yummy soup – very quick and easy to make and I can see where it would be very versatile. I had no intention of going out today and had no canned beans but I do have a jar of dried beans that has a mix of black eyed peas, split green peas and black beans – my favorites. I cooked some dried beans in one pot, the ham as directed in another and then combined them. I had cooked too many beans so added a carton of chicken broth. I loved it, the kids loved it and their friends too. Thanks so much for the recipe.
