Description

One of my favorite (and easy) meals to whip up is turkey chili. It takes only a few minutes to prepare, and makes a large enough batch for my husband and me to enjoy for a few meals!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 cup Yellow Onion, Diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 1-½ pound Ground Turkey Breast
  • 1 can (15 Oz. Can) Petite Diced Tomatoes
  • 2 cans (15 0z. Can) Tomato Sauce
  • 1 can (15 Oz. Can) Black Beans, Rinsed And Drained
  • 3 Tablespoons Chili Powder (more To Taste)
  • 1 Tablespoon Cumin (more To Taste)
  • 2 cups Green Pepper, Diced
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese
  • Salt And Pepper

Preparation

1. Warm extra virgin olive oil in a deep stock pot over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and garlic; saute until tender.
2. Add ground turkey breast; season with salt and pepper and cook through, about 6 minutes.
3. Add petite diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and black beans.
4. Add chili powder and cumin to taste.
5. Reduce heat to medium-low; add green pepper.
6. Simmer 10-20 minutes, until green pepper is tender.
7. Serve with shredded cheese sprinkled on top. A scoop of fresh guacamole is also perfect for this recipe!

***Notes: the spices in this recipe are for a relatively mild chili. If you like your chili with a kick, I would definitely recommend adding more spice to your taste! I typically end up adding a bit more chili powder to mine if my husband isn’t around (he can’t handle heat!).

Also – if you would like your green peppers to be a bit softer, I’d add them in with the onions at the beginning of the recipe. I like a bit of difference in texture in comparison to the soft tomatoes, beans, and turkey, so adding them towards the end is just a personal preference!

If I make this again, I won’t follow these instructions. Throwing green peppers in that late in the recipe makes for raw tasting, crunchy peppers no matter how long they cook. Better to sweat them out in the beginning with the onion.

This recipe looks really tasty!! Chili is close to one of my favorite things about winter; I think I’ll make this for dinner for my husband and I tonight! Thanks for posting a healthier version. :)

commissionedsk – Oh man – corn would be a tasty addition!!! I might just have to try that next time; I love tweaking recipes over time!

OneTallCook – I’m so glad you enjoyed it! My husband requests this one as well…and he isn’t even upset that it isn’t beef chili! Haha!

peanutgallery6 – Taco seasoning – I like the improvisation!

This was absolutely delicious and easy as all get out!!
I didn’t have chili powder (go figure), so I used about 1 1/2 TBSP of taco seasoning instead. Really, this was just delicious. Lovely served with cornbread muffins! Thanks so much for sharing.

This recipe is awesome! I made it last week for my husband and I and brought some leftovers to my parents and they insisted that I make it for them a few nights later! It is a big hit for us, and I’m sure I will make it many more times! The only thing I changed was that I only used 2 T of chili powder to cut down on spice and it turned out perfect. Thank you for sharing!

My husband said this was soo good he couldn’t stop eating it. I also modified the recipe by cooking the pepper at the beginning with the onions and I used the small multi colored peppers since I don’t care for green pepper. Thanks for such a wonderful and easy chili recipe!

If I try this again, I won’t follow the recipe. Adding the green peppers that late in the recipe kept them raw tasting and crunchy even after an hour more cooking. I’d rather see them sweat out with the onions in the begining.

I made this with some revisions. My chili turned out a bit thick so I added a cup of water. and a tablespoon of honey. I am not a huge green pepper fan so I used two jalapenos, I like spicy food and thought it was pretty mild in spice. With that I thought the taste was pretty good and I loved the black beans
