I have made this cake many times now, and it always goes over well. I actually substituted decaf instant coffee for the regular, because I didn’t want the caffeine rush – it turns out just as good! Beware, it is quite a strong flavor, so small pieces are better!

Along with Ree’s chocolate sheet cake, this has become one of my family’s favorite cakes. Soooo yummy!

This is the BEST CAKE that I have ever eaten. I have made this cake about 20 times for parties and the house, and now that is all they ask for. Simply to make. Just love this cake.

I’ve made this cake a few times and everyone always loves it. Even the people who don’t like coffee. It does have a strong flavor so some people might want smaller pieces, or just do what I do and have a big piece with a big glass of milk!

Love this cake!! Made it for a birthday party where German Chocolate cupakes AND a blueberry torte were also on the dessert menu..no one could stop eating the Coffee Cake..it was a HUGE hit! Fool proof and (since there isn’t a word that exists yet to describe what my taste buds felt) DELICIOUS!!!!!

Love this cake! Super moist! I stored it in the fridge and it was yummy up until it was gone. The icing is a dessert in and of itself! haha This cake is the hubby’s favorite!

This cake was awesome. I made if for the birthday of a coffee shop owner, and it was a huge hit. The directions were clear and easy to follow, and a fellow party guest now asks me to bake every time we see each other.

This cake was such a huge hit! I made it for my husband’s birthday because he always complains that in the U.S., coffee cake doesn’t taste like coffee. Thanks for this- it was really delicious and I was thrilled that it came out so well!

I made this cake for my bridge group. I’m embarrassed (but not very) to say that I have dreamed of making the icing and eating it all with a spoon! I have to say, though, that because the instructions mentioned neither the instant coffee in the cake nor the butter, nor when to add them, I accidentally left out the butter completely from the cake. To my surprise, the cake was still moist and tasty, and suffered only in the texture, which was a bit chewy like gingerbread. My friends loved it and want me to make it again, with or without the butter! We all had a good laugh over that. I haven’t made it with the butter yet, but you betcha I’m going to!

i made this in cupcake form and it was great! i added some cream cheese to the frosting for extra yumminess.

This cake was INSANELY good. I made it with “regular” crystals the first time but was terrified to even let my daughter see it so next time, I made it with decaf and we were all able to enjoy it…. with a nap afterward.

Looks like you’re missing some steps. When’s the butter added to the cake? 3 TBS of what is added to the water? But it looks like a delicious cake.

This cake is incredible, I’m ashamed to say that I ate the majority of it, so won’t be making it very often. Very strong coffee flavor which I love.
