Description

Yep! Blue Ribbon winners! Two years in a row at the local county fair. Didn’t win the third year because I didn’t enter!

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cups Butter
  • ⅓ cups Shortening
  • ½ cups White Granulated Sugar
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar, Packed
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1-⅝ cup All-purpose Flour (1 1/2 Cups Plus 2 Rounded Teaspoonfuls)
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Milk Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Heat oven to 375F. Mix butter, shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla thoroughly.

Stir dry ingredients together; then add to the butter mixture and mix in. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2″ apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until just barely browned. Cookies should still be a bit soft.

Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.

(I’m not really sure how many this makes. Probably around 2 to 3 dozen cookies. Depends on how much cookie dough is eaten!)

(Recipe adapted from Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book.)

@ericame – I would probably use all butter now also, as I’m trying to not use shortening anymore. Maybe I need to re-enter them at the fair!

I cheated a bit and used all butter (no shortening in the house) and semi-sweet chocolate chips, but these were delicious. I’m sure if I had followed the recipe exactly they would be even better. :)
