These cookies hold shape fabulously and taste delish! Soft, succulent and adorable for the holidays.
Cream butter and sugar. Add in eggs, one at a time, and vanilla. Mix well.
In separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients. With mixer on slow, add the flour mixture into the creamed mixture gradually until just combined.
Chill dough for at least an hour.
Heat oven to 400ºF.
Roll and cut cookies on lightly floured surface until your heart is content. If not decorating, sprinkle some sugar on top just before baking. Tip: make certain when you roll out the dough that you are making cookies that are at least 1/4″ thick.
Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet, 1″ apart. Bake in the preheated oven. Check cookies after 6 minutes in the oven to ensure you do not overbake. Cookies are best if you remove from oven JUST before edges begin to brown.
After cookies are cool, decorate as you like and enjoy!

Love to add butternut flavoring (about a tablespoon) to sugar cookies to bump up the flavor. Get raves over cookies when I do.
