Description

This is a sweet, crunchy, not to good for you but so good to you pain perdu (French toast). My family makes me make this about once a month. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE FRENCH TOAST:
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour
  • 2-½ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 3 teaspoons Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 loaf Texas Toast Or Another Thick Bread (pre-sliced)
  • Butter Or Oil, For Cooking French Toast
  • FOR THE COATING:
  • 4 Tablespoons Cinnamon, Or To Taste
  • ¾ cups Sugar

Preparation

1. For the French toast, mix dry ingredients (salt, flour, baking powder, and sugar) in a medium bowl.
2. In a large bowl, mix eggs, vanilla extract, and milk.
3. Add dry to wet ingredients (batter may be lumpy and that is ok).
4. In a separate bowl/plate, mix the coating ingredients together.
5. Get a skillet and heat up a capful of oil/butter on medium-high heat.
6. Take your Texas toast and dip bread in the batter and then add to the skillet.
7. Cook on each side for about 2 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and pat slightly with a paper towel to remove excess oil.
8. Then take the cooked toast and add to the cinnamon/sugar mixture shaking to remove excess sugar.
9. Serve with your favorite syrup and breakfast side dish.

Note: these can be frozen in a freezer safe bag. To reheat just place in the microwave for about 30 seconds.

This was a huge hit at my house. It isn’t often all 5 of my kids like the same meal. Thank you!
