For some serious comfort food on a cold winter’s night, nothing beats a steaming bowl of this homemade soup. My family loves it and there are seldom any leftovers. If there are, this soup tastes even better the next day.
In a large stock pot, brown ground beef and onion and drain off fat. Add carrots, beef bouillon cubes and enough water to fill up the pot halfway. Bring to a boil, then turn down to medium and simmer for 25 minutes. Add potatoes, green beans, tomato sauce, sugar, salt and pepper and more water if needed. Bring back to a simmer and cook for another 25 minutes. Blend brown gravy mix with 1/4 cup of water and add to the soup during the last 5 minutes of cooking time. Serve with saltine crackers or corn bread.
