This is the way beans are meant to be: plain and simple, just like my grandmama taught me. You can dress them up any way you want (ketchup, jalapenos, onion, bacon crumbles, salt, pepper … whatever) or you can just enjoy them plain. Serve with cornbread as a meal or as a side with brisket, enchiladas or anything your heart desires.
Spray the inside of a slow cooker with Pam. Place all ingredients in the slow cooker and add enough water to fill the crock pot. Cook beans on High setting for 8 hours. After 8 hours, stir thoroughly to thicken juice, thus improving the flavor. Serve or keep on Low setting until ready to serve.
