Description

Whether for breakfast or for nibbling all day long, try making these easy sweets for your sweetie!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • ½ cups Sugar Plus 1 Tablespoon, Divided Use
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 stick Unsalted Butter
  • ½ cups Buttermilk (low Fat Is Fine)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ¼ cups Half-and-Half (Low Fat Or Fat Free Is Fine)
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 F.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, half cup of sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in the butter using a fork or pastry cutter. Cut until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.

In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, vanilla, egg and half & half. Add the wet ingredients into the butter/flour mixture and mix until incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Spoon free-form scones onto a baking sheet that you’ve lined with parchment paper. Make the scones about the size of your heart-shaped cookie cutter. You’ll cut them after baking. Sprinkle on the remaining tablespoon of sugar and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until lightly golden brown. The dough will be soft and spread on the baking sheet. When done, remove the scones from the oven and cut out heart shapes with a cutter while the scones are still warm.
