Description

These are really simple and so sweet. They make great cookies for Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE DOUGH:
  • 4-½ ounces, weight Butter, Cold
  • 2-½ ounces, weight Powdered Sugar
  • 9 ounces, weight Flour, All-Purpose (Plus Some To Flour The Work Surface When You Roll Out The Dough)
  • 1 Tablespoon Grenadine Syrup
  • 1 whole Egg
  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • 8 ounces, weight Powdered Sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons Grenadine Syrup

Preparation

Dice the butter and toss into the large bowl of a stand mixer. Add the rest of the ingredients for the dough. Mix until well combined. Shape dough into a ball, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile heat the oven to 350 F (175 C).

Sift some flour onto a working surface. Roll out the dough to 1/5 inch thickness using a rolling pin. Cut out heart shapes using various heart-shaped cookie cutters. Pick up scraps, re-roll and cut as many additional hearts as you can.

Put the cookies onto a parchment paper lined baking tray. Bake for about 12 minutes. When cookies are ready remove them from the oven, and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Meanwhile, for the glaze, combine the powdered sugar with grenadine, using only as much grenadine as needed to reach a spreading consistency. Spoon the glaze gently onto the cooled cookies.
