My favorite winter cookie. It’s a variation of my mother’s recipe. She always used 1/2 teaspoon cloves but I use a combination of cardamom and cloves. Yum!
Cream the shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses and beat well. Sift the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, salt, cloves, cardamom) together and add to the egg-molasses mixture.
Mold into small balls and roll in granulated sugar. Do not flatten.
Bake at 350ºF for about 10 minutes. Yum!
Notes:
You can also just use 1/2 teaspoon cloves and omit the cardamom. You can also roll this in raw sugar, which makes them prettier.
