I call these the ultimate meringue cookie because they are so incredibly good. Sort of a cross between a chocolate chip cookie and a candy. Everyone will want more. I get many requests for this recipe when I make them.
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the egg whites, cream of tartar, vanilla, and salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper or parchment-paper-lined baking sheets.
Bake for 25 minutes or until they are light golden brown. They will stay mostly white with just a hint of golden brown on them. Allow to cool on the baking sheet and then gently transfer to a cooling rack. Enjoy!
