This sugar cookie recipe was given to a childhood friend’s mother when I was little. I collected recipes even back then and when I was old enough to start baking on my own, this was one of the first recipes I started to make. It is a Christmas tradition at our house, loved by everyone. This is absolutely, hands down the best sugar cookie recipe I have ever tasted. Try them out and let me know if you agree!
Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and shortening as if you mixing a pie crust, cutting the shortening in with a pastry blender.
Add the baking soda to the sugar. Mix the eggs with the milk and the vanilla and then add it to the sugar mixture. Mix well. Pour this into the flour mixture and combine until smooth. Roll the dough out onto a floured surface. Use a cookie cutter to cut out your favorite shape. Top with colored sugar or leave plain. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-9 minutes depending on how thick your cookies are.
