These cookies have been made longer than I have been alive! The dough base is perfect for cutout cookies and cookie presses. The simple ingredients make this the go-to sugar cookie recipe in my family!
Place softened butter into a bowl (do not melt the butter, just let it get naturally soft). Once the butter has softened, mix in the sugar, egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder, then slowly mix into the butter mixture. When the dough starts to form, you may add food coloring.
Disclaimer: If you are going to use this dough for rolling out and using cookie cutters, please refrigerate for at least 3 hours. If you use a cookie press, DO NOT refrigerate. It will only make your life miserable!
Once you have put the cookies on the cookie sheet, you may add any sort of sprinkles. Bake at 350ºF for 10 minutes.
This recipe makes a LOT of cookies. I think I wound up with 7 dozen!
