Description

A delicious bread pudding with hard sauce that it sure to please everyone! I’ve looked for just the right recipe for years and never could find it so I came up with one myself!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BREAD PUDDING:
  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • 1 quart Half-and-Half (Fat Free Works Well)
  • 1 stick Butter, Melted
  • 3 whole Eggs
  • 2-¼ cups Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • _____
  • FOR THE HARD SAUCE:
  • 1 stick Butter, Melted
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Whiskey (see Note)
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla

Preparation

Break apart the loaf of bread into bite size pieces. Pour half-and-half over the bread pieces and soak at least a couple of hours in the refrigerator, but overnight is best. Blend the melted butter, eggs, sugar, and vanilla with the bread mixture. Pour into a 9×13″ dish that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour, or until the center springs back. If you shake the baking dish, the pudding will appear wiggly like gelatin. Serve topped with Hard Sauce.

To prepare Hard Sauce:

Blend together sauce ingredients; simmer for a short while until mixture is all combined and melted together. Pour over warm bread pudding.

Note: You may substitute other artificial flavorings such as butterscotch, almond, or rum for the whiskey if you’d prefer. You may also add pecans to the sauce for something different.

I was really “whattttt?” about the sauce, didn’t think and egg belonged in there!! But it was so good!! Really enjoyed it.

Simple, quick, and delicious! I added Craisins and used Bourbon in place of the Whiskey. Also, utilized fat free milk AND butter with Fresh French Bread. Delightful. And people didn’t realize it was modified to be healthier. :)

I thought the bread pudding part was way too sweet. I cut it back to 2 cups of sugar, but next time I think I would use only 1.5 cups sugar so the hard sauce stands out better. Overall I really enjoyed this recipe. Thanks for the fat-free half and half tip it did work well. I used a sour dough baguette and half a french baguette. SUPER tasty!

Yum! I have made this twice now and love it! The sauce is out of this world….I could eat it over gravel and be happy! I loosely follow the bread pudding recipe (I eyeball mostly) and was very skeptical of the directions for the sauce but it is fool-proof!
