A surprising ingredient makes these cookies soft and wonderful. Something out of the ordinary from your everyday sugar cookie.
Cook raisins until plump (cover in water). Reserve 1 cup of raisin water and drain the rest of the raisins. Add 1 teaspoon of soda to this water.
Cream bacon grease with white sugar and brown sugar. Add the eggs. Combine the flour with the nutmeg and cinnamon, combine with the above mixture. Add the raisin juice mixture to this. Stir in the drained raisins.
Shape the dough into cookies and bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes.
