Description

This unique and yummy cookie recipe is credited to my great-aunt; it’s been a family favorite for decades. It takes slightly different supplies than a lot of cookie recipes, so make sure you have everything you need before beginning! It’s definitely worth a few extra things on the grocery list, though!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • ½ packages (8 Oz. Package) Cream Cheese
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Grated Orange Peel
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 package (6 Oz. Package) Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Cream shortening, sugar, cream cheese, eggs and orange peel. Stir in vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix flour and salt. Add to the wet ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. These don’t spread much on the pan.

Bake at 350F for 12 minutes. (They don’t seem to brown much).

Enjoy!

This is the second time I have made these! Very good and I love the texture. The orange/chocolate flavor make a delightful combination….in fact I wanted a bit more orange flavor to it so I squeezed in some juice from the orange that I zested:)….Great recipe! Thanks for sharing!

These are super easy to make, have a lovely smooth texture that is completely different from the usual chocolate chip cookie. Mikie likes it! I also tried it with a teaspoon of baking powder, just to see how it would do. Either way is good, the baking powder makes them a little puffier, but also a little drier. The orange peel and cream cheese really sets them apart.
