Description

Mooo-hoo- ha-ha–ha-ha… we’re getting closer to the grand creation, some electricity please… How to make a monster cake! Chocolate and vanilla cake with creamy vanilla frosting, decorated into a monster doll cake. It’s alive!

Ingredients

  • 1 box Chocolate Cake Mix, 18 Ounce Box
  • 1 box Vanilla Cake Mix, 18 Ounce Box
  • Additional Required Ingredients Specified On Both Cake Mix Packages (typically Water, Eggs And Oil)
  • 3 cans Vanilla Frosting, 16 Ounce Tubs
  • Blue And Green Food Coloring, As Needed To Reach Desired Color
  • 1 piece Chocolate Candy Lips
  • 2 pieces Sour Patch Jewlery Rings
  • 1 piece Sweet Heart Candy Necklace
  • 2 pieces Candy Corn
  • 1 piece Candy Or Jelly Bean Heart Shaped
  • 1 piece Cake Board
  • 2 pieces Pattern Paper
  • 1 strip Plastic Wrap

Preparation

First design the cake board with the pattern paper (in the shape of your monster) and then wrap the board with the plastic wrap to protect it.

Prepare your cake pans. I used 9” circular cake pans for the vanilla cake, where I carved out the arms and hands.
I made the chocolate cake in a 9” x 13” rectangular cake pan and used it for the main body of the monster cake.

Prepare your cake mixes per box instructions using the additional required ingredients specified for each box (typically water, eggs and oil), let cool for several hours, even up to a day prior to carving out your cake pattern. It’s common to freeze and wrap cakes overnight before decorating, this prevents crumbling.

Once you have carved out your monster/doll shape with the chocolate cake reserve the cut off sections to carve out the eyes. You can begin frosting the entire cake with the plain vanilla frosting, then layer the vanilla cake arms atop and frost them.

I mixed together blue and green food dye to create a teal blue for the final layer of frosting and Blue Monchou’s true colors.

Once the cake was completely frosted, I cut the eyes out of the remaining chocolate cake and applied them.

I gathered and applied all the candy that was left, chocolate lips, sweetheart necklace, sour patch rings, candy corn and one red honey flavored jelly bean heart to bring Monster Doll Cake to life.

Have fun!
